Zed is a code editor written for speed, from the makers of Atom and Tree-sitter. It has multiplayer editing and AI edit predictions, and it can work with external agents such as Claude Agent and Codex CLI.
The Mac download needs macOS 10.15 or later. Zed's source is mostly GPL-3.0-or-later with some Apache-2.0 parts.
The Personal plan is free forever if you use your own API keys or external agents. Pro is $10 a month with Zed-hosted models and $5 of tokens included. The editor runs on your Mac; AI requests go to the model provider you choose.
How to Get It
brew install --cask zedOfficial downloads only. MLX never re-hosts an app, and never runs a command for you.
