Aider edits code in your local git repository from a chat in the terminal. It builds a map of the whole codebase, works in 100+ languages, and commits every change with a clear message so you can diff or undo it. It can also lint and test after each edit.
The aider-install helper needs Python 3.8 to 3.13 and puts aider in its own environment. Homebrew has a formula too.
Aider is free. It connects to almost any model, cloud or local, so your code goes only to the provider you pick.
