Claude Code works in your project folder. You describe a change in plain words and it reads the code, edits files, runs commands and handles git workflows. It runs in the terminal, in VS Code and JetBrains IDEs, and in the Code tab of the Claude desktop app, which includes it.
It needs macOS 13.0 or later and at least 4 GB of memory. Install it with Anthropic's script or Homebrew; the npm package is deprecated.
It needs a paid Claude plan (Pro is $20 a month billed monthly) or an Anthropic Console account. The AI runs on Anthropic's servers, so your prompts and the code it reads are sent there.
