uv installs Python versions, packages and command line tools, and manages projects and virtual environments, in one tool written in Rust. Many AI tools document `uv tool install` or `uvx` as a way to install or run them.
uv supports macOS 13 Ventura and later, on Apple silicon and Intel.
It's free and open source (MIT or Apache 2.0) and runs on your Mac; it downloads packages from PyPI and Python builds.
