ChatGPT is OpenAI's AI assistant for questions, writing and everyday tasks. On 9 July 2026 OpenAI merged the separate Codex app into the ChatGPT Mac app, so one app now covers chat and coding tasks.
The Mac app needs macOS 13 or later according to its Homebrew cask, and the iPhone and iPad app needs iOS 18. It also works in any browser at chatgpt.com.
There is a free plan. In the App Store, ChatGPT Go costs $8, Plus $19.99 and Pro from $100 a month. The AI runs on OpenAI's servers, so your chats are sent to OpenAI.
